Leave No Trace Ireland are delighted to announce a new Erasmus environmental event to take place in Westport, Co. Mayo, Ireland, in March 2018. This event will engage young people from Italy, Spain, Portugal and local transition year students from Westport where they will learn about conserving their natural environment.  “This will be a fantastic opportunity for European students to engage in a peer learning process about conserving the Irish environment. The 2 day event will aim to equip the students with the inspiration and tools to apply their learning to their local environment” according to Eithne Larkin, Training Coordinator from Leave No Trace Ireland.  The programme will include environmental education and outdoor learning which will take place over a 2 day event in outdoor sites around Westport. Students will learn about the environmental impact of their actions and how they can offset them.  A local Water expert will facilitate a workshop which will  explore the importance of the high quality water in the outdoor environment. The workshop will include carrying out restorative actions.

This outdoor educational event is a fantastic opportunity for young people to build friendships with students from Europe. Over 50 local Irish students aged 16-18 will take part in the 2 day event. They will also host the visiting students in their Irish homes which will give the European students the unique opportunity to experience Irish family life.
